Done at handover on every commercial install

Cam-Map Registration Perth

Cam-Map registration in Perth is part of handover on every commercial CCTV system we install. Cam-Map WA is WA Police's voluntary register of camera locations; registering tells investigating officers that your premises has footage without giving anyone access to it, and it is a condition of the state's small business CCTV rebate.

What Cam-Map is and who uses it

Cam-Map WA is a register of CCTV camera locations kept by WA Police. When an incident is being investigated, officers can see which nearby premises have cameras and ask the owner for footage. The register holds the location, who to contact and a description of what the cameras cover. It does not connect to your recorder and nobody at WA Police can view your cameras through it; if they want footage, they ask you for it, and you export it.

It is voluntary for most businesses. It becomes a condition when a government rebate funds the system, and insurers and landlords increasingly ask whether the cameras are registered because it signals a system that is maintained and documented.

What you need to register

The form asks for the premises address, a contact who can be reached about footage, the number of cameras and roughly what each covers (entrance, car park, counter, laneway), whether any camera faces a public area, and how long footage is retained. That is exactly the information a properly handed-over system already has written down, which is why we do it at handover rather than leaving the business to work it out later.

How we help on handover

At the end of a commercial install we give the business a one-page system summary: each camera, what it covers, the recorder model and storage, the retention period, and how to export footage to USB. The same sheet is what Cam-Map asks for, so registration takes a few minutes with the business owner at the keyboard; we sit alongside, because the registration has to be lodged by the business, not by us. If a system we did not install needs registering, a short site visit produces the same summary.

The summary also covers the two things WA Police will ask for in practice: that footage carries an accurate time and date stamp, and that it can be exported in a standard video format. Both are checked and demonstrated before we leave.

Rebate and insurance reasons to register

The SBDC small business CCTV rebate requires the system to be registered on Cam-Map before the claim is lodged, with the confirmation email kept as evidence. Commercial insurers ask about CCTV on most retail and hospitality policies, and a registered, documented system is an easier answer than an unregistered one. Landlords and shopping-centre managers sometimes require it in a tenancy fit-out checklist. None of these change what the cameras do; they change what you can prove about them.

Registration sits alongside the other compliance points of a commercial system: signage at entrances, staff notification, no cameras in private areas, and retention that matches your obligations. Our guide to security camera laws in WA covers those in detail.

Questions we get asked

Does registering on Cam-Map give WA Police access to my cameras?

No. Cam-Map records that cameras exist at your address, what they cover and who to contact. It has no connection to your recorder. If police want footage, they contact you and you export it to them in a standard video format. You remain in control of the system and the footage.

Is Cam-Map registration compulsory for a business in WA?

It is voluntary for most businesses. It becomes a requirement when the system is funded by the SBDC small business CCTV rebate, which asks for the Cam-Map confirmation email before the rebate is paid. Insurers, landlords and centre managers may also ask for it.

Can Great White Security register the cameras on my behalf?

The registration has to be lodged by the business, so we do not submit it for you. What we do is supply the full system summary the form asks for and sit with you at handover while it is lodged, so it takes a few minutes rather than a research project.

What information does the Cam-Map form ask for?

Premises address, a contact for footage requests, the number of cameras and what each covers, whether any camera faces a public area, and how long footage is retained. Our handover summary contains all of it, including the recorder model and storage.

Can you register a system you did not install?

Yes. A short site visit produces the same one-page system summary: camera list and coverage, recorder and storage, retention, time-stamp and export check. You then lodge the registration with that in hand. If the visit finds the system cannot export footage or has no working time stamp, we tell you what it would take to fix.

New install or existing cameras, we produce the one-page summary Cam-Map asks for, check the time stamp and export, and sit with you while it is lodged. Tell us the premises and what is installed.
