Ajax Cloud Storage Now Covers Wired Cameras: What It Means for Perth Sites

Ajax Cloud Storage now supports every Ajax wired camera, which turns a feature that used to be limited to the DoorBell and IndoorCam into a proper cloud backup for commercial CCTV. Ajax announced the change on 14 October 2026. For the Perth businesses we install Ajax on, it answers the question we get asked most after a break-in: what happens to the footage if they take the recorder?

This post covers what the service does and does not do, the two plans for wired cameras, where it fits alongside an Ajax NVR, and how we switch it on. Everything here is taken from Ajax's announcement and product page; where something is not yet published for Australia we say so rather than guess.

Already on Ajax, or planning a new system? We can add cloud storage to the cameras that matter.

What changed on 14 October 2026

Until now, Ajax Cloud Storage only worked with the two Wi-Fi devices in the range: DoorBell and IndoorCam. The wired cameras, which are the ones that go on commercial sites, recorded to the Ajax NVR and nowhere else. If the NVR was stolen, drowned, burnt or simply failed, the footage went with it.

From this release, any Ajax wired camera can have a cloud subscription attached to it. Ajax's own wording: "Now installers can offer it across the entire Ajax video surveillance portfolio." For an existing Ajax system it is an installer-side change rather than new hardware, so it can be added to cameras that are already on the wall.

In one paragraph

The camera keeps recording continuously to the on-site NVR. When the camera's AI picks up a person, vehicle or animal, or an Ajax detector fires a video scenario, a short clip of that event (5 seconds before, 5 seconds after) is also sent to Ajax Cloud and kept for 7 or 30 days. You open it from the same Ajax app, with a tap on the notification.

Why this matters for a Perth business

Recorder theft is not rare. On a smash-and-grab the offender often knows where the NVR is, or finds it in the same cupboard as the alarm panel, and takes it on the way out. The cameras can have captured everything and none of it survives. Ajax's own framing is the same: "If the NVR is stolen, damaged, or destroyed, footage remains accessible in Ajax apps."

Three situations where we would now specify it as standard:

  • →
The cameras covering the entry and the recorder itself. If someone is going to take the NVR, those are the clips you need to have left the building already.
  • →
Small distributed sites. Ajax notes that "small, distributed sites can use cloud storage without deploying an NVR at each location". A storage unit, a pump station, a satellite office with two cameras: cloud-only is now a legitimate option.
  • →
Sites where the alarm is already Ajax. Because the recording trigger can be an Ajax detector, a MotionCam or door contact firing a scenario means the cloud gets a clip of the event that caused the alarm, not just whatever the camera noticed on its own.

The two plans for wired cameras

Ajax publishes two plans for wired cameras. Each is attached to a single camera, so a six-camera site might run Premium on the two critical views and nothing on the other four. Retention is 7 or 30 days on either plan. These are Ajax's published specifications as at 14 October 2026.

Plan Economy Premium
Event clip resolution576p3K on 4/5 MP cameras
4K on 8 MP cameras
Bitrate512 kbps2 Mbps (4/5 MP)
3 Mbps (8 MP)
Frame rate15 fps15 fps
Retention7 or 30 days7 or 30 days
Number of clipsUnlimitedUnlimited
Pre / post-recording5 s / 5 s5 s / 5 s
Good forKnowing what happened and whenIdentification: faces, plates, evidence

Our reading of it: Economy is enough to verify an alarm and establish a timeline, Premium is what you want if the clip might be the only copy handed to police. The footage export process for WA Police is the same either way.

Subscription pricing is per camera per plan and retention period. It is set by Ajax and we quote it with the system, so ask and we will give you the figure for your camera count. Note that the older Wi-Fi camera plans (DoorBell and IndoorCam) still carry a recording-minute limit; the wired camera plans do not.

Cloud and NVR together, not one or the other

This is not continuous cloud recording, and it is not meant to replace the Ajax NVR on a commercial site. Ajax describes it as a dual-storage approach: "the NVR records continuously, and the cloud keeps critical events." That split is the right one for most Perth businesses. You still want 30-plus days of continuous footage on site for the slow-burn investigations (stock shrinkage, a staff dispute, a vehicle that visited three times before the break-in), and the retention periods WA businesses are generally expected to hold are easier to meet on local storage.

What the cloud layer adds is survivability for the moments that matter. Because it only uploads event clips, it also sits lightly on a typical NBN business connection, where continuous multi-camera cloud recording often does not.

For how this compares with other cloud and hybrid options we install, see CCTV cloud storage for Perth businesses.

Want cloud storage on your Ajax cameras?

Ajax Cloud Storage is set up and managed by the installer, not through the end-user app, so the way to get it is to contact us. Tell us how many cameras you have and which views matter and we will come back with the plan and retention period that suits each one, quoted alongside the system or added to the Ajax system you already run.

If your Ajax cameras were installed by someone else, we can take the system over and do the same. For a new system, we design the camera layout so the cloud-backed views are the ones that identify people at the entries and cover the recorder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Ajax cameras work with Ajax Cloud Storage?
As of October 2026, Ajax Cloud Storage supports DoorBell, IndoorCam and all Ajax wired cameras, which covers the TurretCam, BulletCam and DomeCam models we install on Perth commercial sites. Each wired camera is subscribed individually, so you can enable it on the two or three cameras that matter and leave the rest on the NVR only.
Is Ajax Cloud Storage available in Australia?
Yes. Ajax's own services-availability tool lists Cloud Storage as active for Australia. It is set up and managed by the installer rather than the end user, so contact us if you want it on your cameras.
Does Ajax Cloud Storage record continuously?
No. It records event clips only. A clip is saved when the camera's AI object recognition detects a person, vehicle or animal, or when an Ajax detector triggers a video scenario, with five seconds of pre-roll and five seconds after. Continuous recording stays on the on-site Ajax NVR. That is why it uses so little bandwidth and why the archive is easy to search.
Do I still need an NVR if I use Ajax Cloud Storage?
For most commercial sites, yes. The NVR gives you continuous footage for investigations and for WA retention expectations, and the cloud keeps the critical events somewhere a thief or a fire cannot reach. Ajax does also support cloud-only use for small distributed sites with one or two cameras where an NVR at each location is not justified.
What do the Ajax Cloud Storage plans include for wired cameras?
Two plans, each with 7-day or 30-day retention and an unlimited number of event clips. Economy stores clips at 576p. Premium stores them at 3K on 4 and 5 MP cameras and at 4K on 8 MP cameras. Both record at 15 frames per second with 5 seconds of pre- and post-recording. Pricing is per camera and depends on the plan and retention period. Contact us for a quote.
