The current UniFi Protect lineup is led by the G6 series: the G6 Turret, G6 Bullet and G6 Dome (8MP 4K, 1/1.8-inch sensor, IP66, 30m IR, with face and licence plate recognition on the camera), the G6 Pro Turret, Bullet and Dome (larger 1/1.2-inch 4K sensor, 2.36x optical zoom, 40m IR), the G6 180 (dual-sensor 16MP 180-degree view), and the G6 PTZ (10x hybrid zoom). The AI Turret and AI Dome (8MP 4K, 40m IR) and the AI LPR (8MP 4K, 3x optical zoom, reads plates at up to 90 km/h) sit alongside them, with the G6 Entry, G6 Pro Entry and G4 Doorbell Pro for doors. The earlier G5 series (G5 Dome, G5 Bullet, G5 Turret Ultra, G5 Dome Ultra — 4MP 2K) remains available as a value option. All are managed in the same UniFi Protect interface.

No. UniFi Protect includes all features — AI detection, remote access, mobile app, multi-user management, retention scheduling, and privacy masking — in the cost of the hardware. There are no ongoing per-camera or per-feature licensing fees. This is a significant difference from enterprise VMS platforms such as Milestone XProtect and Genetec Security Center, which charge annual per-camera licensing that can run to tens of thousands of dollars per year on larger sites.

The AI Key is a compact, PoE-powered edge AI appliance that joins the same network as your UniFi console or UNVR and adds capabilities beyond standard smart detection. It brings licence plate recognition (LPR) and facial recognition to G4 and G5 cameras, and adds NeXT AI natural-language search, event summaries and speech-to-text transcription across the system. G6 and AI-series cameras already perform face and plate recognition on the camera, so they do not need an AI Key for those features. All processing is done locally — no footage is sent to cloud AI services.

Yes. UniFi Protect supports continuous 24/7 recording, motion-triggered recording, or a combination of both configured per camera. Recording schedules can be set by time of day and day of week, so you can run continuous recording overnight and motion-only during business hours, for example. Retention periods are set based on available hard drive capacity.

UniFi Protect scales from small to very large deployments. Capacity depends on recording resolution. The CloudKey+ is rated for 24 HD or 8 4K cameras, the 4-bay UNVR for 60 HD, 30 2K or 18 4K, and the 7-bay UNVR Pro for 70 HD, 35 2K or 24 4K. The newer UNVR G2 and UNVR G2 Pro lift 4K capacity to 30 and 50 cameras, and the Enterprise NVR is rated for 210 HD or 70 4K cameras. The UNVR is a 4-bay NVR with a 10G uplink, rated for 60 HD, 30 2K or 18 4K cameras — ideal for small-to-medium commercial sites. The UNVR Pro is a 7-bay rack-mount unit with RAID 1/5/10 redundancy, a front touchscreen, DC battery backup support, and higher camera and storage capacity (70 HD, 35 2K or 24 4K cameras). The UNVR Pro is recommended for sites where drive failure cannot result in recording downtime — government, healthcare, industrial, and 24-hour operations.

Eligible Ubiquiti hardware we supply and install — cameras, UNVR appliances, and consoles — carries a three-year manufacturer warranty, extended from Ubiquiti's standard term because we're an approved Elite Integrator partner for Ubiquiti in Australia. The cover sits with the manufacturer, so it stays with the equipment: if a camera or recorder fails inside the term, we diagnose it, lodge the claim, and manage the replacement. Yes. Ubiquiti UniFi Protect cameras are NDAA Section 889 compliant — they do not incorporate components from manufacturers listed under the US National Defense Authorization Act restrictions (Huawei, ZTE, Hikvision, Dahua, Hytera). This makes UniFi Protect suitable for Australian government, defence-adjacent, and compliance-sensitive installations where Chinese-manufactured surveillance components are restricted or prohibited.

Yes, via the UniFi AI Port. The AI Port is a PoE adapter that bridges ONVIF-compatible third-party cameras into UniFi Protect, and adds edge AI detection to those cameras. This means you can retain existing compliant cameras on a retrofit project and manage them alongside new UniFi cameras in the same interface. It also allows integration of specialist hardware such as thermal imagers that Ubiquiti does not manufacture.

Remote access is built in at no extra cost. Once your UNVR or console is linked to a UniFi account, authorised users can access live and recorded footage, manage detection settings, and receive push notifications from the UniFi Protect mobile app (iOS and Android) or web browser from anywhere. Multi-site access via Vantage Point lets security managers view cameras across multiple locations from a single dashboard.
