Your Security System Is Only as Good as Your Network

IP cameras, access control readers, video intercoms, and NVR consoles all run over your network. A undersized switch drops camera feeds. An overloaded access point causes access reader timeouts. Poor PoE budgeting leaves devices offline during peak load. The network is not the afterthought — it is the foundation that every security component depends on.

Great White Security installs the full Ubiquiti UniFi stack — Wi-Fi 7 access points, PoE switches, and gateway consoles — as the backbone of your UniFi security ecosystem. Because we install the cameras, access control, and intercoms ourselves, we size and configure the network with those devices in mind from the start. One vendor, one installer, one call for support.

MSPs & IT Companies: We Are Your Install Partner

Many managed service providers and IT companies design and deploy UniFi network infrastructure for their clients — but their licensing does not cover security systems. IP cameras, access control panels, and intercom wiring require a licensed security installer under WA law.

Great White Security works alongside IT teams and MSPs as a trade installation partner. We handle the physical installation, cabling, and commissioning of cameras, access readers, and intercoms — while your team retains the network management relationship with your client. We are familiar with how MSPs operate and are happy to work to your project timelines, scope documents, and handover processes.

Where We Install UniFi Network Infrastructure

Office & Commercial

Multi-floor office fit-outs with ceiling-mount U7 Pro APs, PoE switches running cameras and access readers, and a UDM Pro Max as the gateway and security console. VLAN segmentation keeps corporate, guest, and security traffic separate on the same physical infrastructure.

Retail Multi-Site

Retail chains benefit from UniFi Site Manager — a single pane of glass across all locations. We install consistent hardware across each site, enabling your IT team or MSP to manage the whole estate remotely with standardised configuration templates.

Industrial & Warehousing

Large warehouse and industrial environments need reliable Wi-Fi coverage across wide open spaces and high racking. U7 Outdoor and U7 Pro Max APs handle the scale, while robust PoE switches power cameras and access points even in harsh dust and temperature environments.

Education & Healthcare

High client-density environments with strict network segmentation requirements. Enterprise Wi-Fi 7 (E7 series) handles hundreds of concurrent devices per AP, while VLAN policies enforce separation between staff, student, guest, and security system traffic — all manageable centrally.

Our Installation Process

1

Site Survey & Scope

We walk the site to assess coverage requirements, cable routing, existing infrastructure, and PoE power budgets for cameras, readers, and APs. We document what is needed before anything is ordered.

2

Hardware Design

We specify the right gateway, switch models, and AP placement for your site — sized correctly for the number of cameras, access points, and security devices that will be powered and managed.

3

Cabling & Installation

Structured cabling, AP mounting, switch rack installation, and gateway setup. We work to cable standards and document every port — so the next person in the rack knows what they are looking at.

4

Configuration & Integration

UniFi Network configuration including VLANs, SSIDs, firewall rules, and PoE scheduling. Where the network is part of a broader UniFi security deployment, we configure Protect and Access on the same console simultaneously.

5

Handover & Documentation

We hand over with full network documentation — IP address assignments, VLAN layout, SSID credentials, and admin access. We walk your team or IT partner through the UniFi dashboard and support ongoing management as required.

UniFi Network FAQs

Why does network infrastructure matter for security systems?

Cameras, access readers, and intercoms all depend on reliable PoE network switching. An unreliable or underpowered switch causes dropped camera feeds, reader timeouts, and intercom failures. UniFi switches are purpose-built for always-on infrastructure — with PoE power budgeting, VLAN segmentation, and centralised management. We size the network correctly for the security devices from day one.

What is Wi-Fi 7 and do I need it for my site?

Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) offers significantly faster throughput, lower latency, and much better multi-client performance than Wi-Fi 6 or 6E. For sites with many wireless devices, high-density environments, or wireless cameras and readers, Wi-Fi 7 is the right foundation. For small single-office deployments it may be over-specified — we will recommend the right product for your specific situation.

Can a single UniFi device handle gateway, cameras, and access control?

Yes. The UDM Pro, UDM Pro Max, and UDM SE run UniFi OS, which simultaneously manages UniFi Network (gateway/routing), UniFi Protect (cameras and NVR), and UniFi Access (door control) on the same device. The UDM SE even includes an integrated 8-port PoE switch. For small to mid-size commercial sites this is an excellent, cost-effective solution.

Do you install UniFi for sites without security systems?

Yes. We install UniFi networks for offices, retail, hospitality, and industrial sites regardless of whether they need cameras or access control. Many clients engage us purely for Wi-Fi, switching, and gateway infrastructure. If you later add UniFi cameras or access control, the network is already configured and ready.

Can you work alongside our MSP or IT team?

Yes — we regularly partner with MSPs and IT companies who manage UniFi networks for their clients but need a licensed security installer for cameras, access control, and intercoms. We handle the physical installation and commissioning of security devices, while your team retains the network management relationship. See our MSP partnership page for details.

Is UniFi network suitable for large enterprise deployments?

Yes. The Enterprise Wi-Fi 7 series (E7, E7 Campus, E7 Audience), Enterprise Fortress Gateway, Enterprise Campus switches, and UXG Enterprise are designed for large deployments. We have commissioned UniFi networks in sites with more than 100 access points. UniFi Site Manager handles multi-site visibility from a central console. We can discuss your specific scale and requirements.
